Commissioning & Training Technician

Cask Global Canning Solutions - Calgary, Alberta

Oh hey there…are you looking for a chance to join a booming company that still has a small-business feel? Cask Global Canning Solutions is a successful and growing company, and thanks to our ongoing success we’re expanding our Commissioning & Training Services team.

We’ve been around since 1999, providing innovative and affordable canning systems to the world’s craft beverage businesses. Some of these creators include craft beer, cider, wine, cold brewed coffee, kombucha and other life-enhancing beverages. Cask has installed more than 1,250 canning systems in over 60 different countries across the world, and now we are looking for another Commissioning & Training Technician to help our customers get up and running with their new canning equipment.

For the right candidate, this is a kick-ass job that serves the craft-beverage industry and will have you travelling often (hint: must love business travel).

About the Role & Who You Are:

You will travel throughout a designated region approximately two-to-three weeks each month to facilitate the commissioning and training of our canning systems. Your work will largely focus on getting the canning lines operating at high efficiency and training customer operators. However, you will own the entire commissioning and training experience, for your region, from start to finish including customer communications, managing expectations, scheduling, and post-visit activities.

You like people and machinery just as much as you like after-work beers. You must looooove business travel and perhaps more importantly, your family must love your love of business travel – it’s essential that they are supportive of this lifestyle. The days can be long and unexpected surprises will come your way, but that’s ok, you’re tenacious. You’ve got more grit and perseverance than Chuck Norris. You’re resourceful like Arya Stark. You’ve got more endurance than a Peloton coach. You’re a workhorse but you’re also a thinker; if there’s a better way, you’ll say so. You and customer service go together like beer and cans (wink, wink). Every customer environment and visit will be unique so you’ll need a flexible approach, strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and a can-do-it attitude (get it!). Last but not least, you must have a passion for the craft beverage industry - someone we can geek out with.

Your Day Will Require the Following of You:

    • First and foremost, you bring lots of energy to delivering an awesome, thoughtful customer experience, from start to finish. Your goal is always happy customers who will never hesitate to refer Cask to others. Your performance will be measured on customer happiness and achieving a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 50.
    • You are highly organized and will be responsible for on-boarding customers (making them feel like part of the Cask family), scheduling visits within a specific region/territory, delivering frequent customer communications, setting clear expectations and delivering virtual or in-person (or a hybrid) commissioning and training experience.
    • You think on your feet and enjoy working in unfamiliar territory. Sometimes you’ll need to leverage your knowledge and authority in finding creative ways to move forward.
    • You love being in the spotlight and can easily take control of high-pressure situations.
    • You're a teacher-at-heart and you demonstrate lots of patience when interacting with others.
    • Using a deliberate, methodical approach to solving problems combined with seeking the experience and ideas of others when solving problems. You must feel comfortable making decisions with limited information.
    • You’ll often need to act quickly during ambiguous and unpredictable situations (remember that drive and grit?!)
    • You’ve got a few tricks-of-the-trade up your sleeve (electrical or mechanical trade that is). Using your knowledge of mechanical/pneumatic/electrical systems and components, you’ll ensure that every customer visit is a success. And hey, if you have beverage or brewery experience, you might just be the Rockstar we’re looking for.
    • You will move through airports…A LOT. You love travel but also know that business travel isn’t always glamorous.

Qualifications:

  • You must have experience with frequent business travel
  • Working within a craft-beverage environment and/or with packaging equipment is considered a strong asset and will shoot you to the top of our list
  • Electrical, (industrial) mechanical or automation technology education or equivalent work experience is a strong asset
  • 5+ years experience troubleshooting mechanical/pneumatic/electronic components
  • Familiarity with PLC and HIM operation is an asset
  • Experience in a customer-facing role in a similar industry
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Multi-lingual is an asset (in particular French, Spanish)
  • Proficiency with relevant software, including CRM software (Salesforce), MS Office (especially Outlook, Word, Excel), online expense management and similar online tools
  • Must have a valid passport and driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 25 lbs.

Unique to this Role

There will be a significant amount of travel in this role, approximately 10 days per month (up to 15), with the possibility of two consecutive weeks at a time. Work hours are typically between core business hours but will sometimes include evenings and weekends when you’re on the road. Last-minute travel and schedule changes are a reality for this role so schedule flexibility is required. While it's preferred that this role resides in Calgary, Alberta, living close to a major international airport is a requirement.

Working at Cask Global Canning Solutions

This is a full-time, permanent role with a competitive salary starting at $60,000 CAD to $70,000 CAD per year (based on experience). Top performers will have the potential for additional bonuses, bringing the earning potential for this role to approximately $80,000 to $90,000 CAD. We also offer a comprehensive group benefits package (health, dental, etc.), a pension matching program and 3 weeks’ vacation. You’ll be joining an organization of about 65 people, which means that all your hard work is going to get noticed. Despite our incredible success and recent expansion, we still have the feel of a small family business, and you’ll see that from day one.
